A great day at Dodleston Summer Fair with the Longbow Club’s Have-a-go. Thanks to all the Club members who turned up to help and to make it such a success.

Feedback from the event:

Firstly thank you to you and your fellow archers for putting on a brilliant event on Saturday. The organisers said your professionalism was brilliant and added an extra dimension to the summer Festival. There will be a debriefing session shortly so please let me know if you any issues as I know for certain you will be invited back next year.
I do hope all the effort you put into the event paid off for you and the club. Many locals have said how much they enjoyed having a shoot.

165th GNAM Tournament

[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”12″ gal_title=”GNAM 2019″]

Great 3 days at GNAM in Lilleshall, a double York/Hereford on Wednesday and Thursday and a Long National on the Friday. Wednesday was cloudy and a little chilly, but then Thursday and Friday brightened up although there was a tricky wind, particularly at the longer distances.

Great to meet old friends and make new ones. The Longbow Club was well represented again with Alison and Steve Williams, Katrina Horton, Chris Eccles and Lord Ian Stowell who had the honour of shooting the first arrow of the tournament, a whistling arrow. There was an excellent turnout of Cheshire Archers.

Lord Ian won the Hepburn Challenge Spoon for the worst white on the Last end and a Gilt Spider in the Double York

Katrina won a Gilt medal for the Ladies any Bowstyle Handicap Award in the Double Hereford

Alison won a Silver medal for the Ladies any Bowstyle Handicap Award in the Double Hereford and also achieved her second Master Bowman score, so just one more to go.

Dunster Week

Well, another fantastic week in Dunster draws to a close. Starting off last Sunday with a York/Hereford, Monday a WA1440, Tuesday an Albion, Wednesday a Two Way Western with 202 Longbow Archers, some in traditional costume, followed by a delicious cream tea. Thursday a Two Way Clout, Friday a Western, the Saturday and Sunday a Double York/Hereford.
Representing The Longbow Club this year were Alison and Steve Williams, Katrina Horton and Chris Eccles. A wonderful time was had by all, meeting up with old friends and making new ones.
Katrina was 1st Lady Visitor in the Sunday Hereford, 3rd Lady Longbow in the WA1440, third Lady Longbow in the Albion, 1st Lady Longbow in the Two Way Clout and 2nd Lady Longbow Visitor in the Double Hereford.
All Chris got was tears in his eyes when the self Yew bow that Katrina made two years before, in memory of her Mum and Dad, snapped at full draw 😪

Somerset County and Open

1st Lady Longbow

Great day at the Somerset and Open Championships. The weather was somewhat mixed with spells of bright sunshine, rain, heavy cloud, strong gusts of wind and flat calm.
It was nice to see people that we met and shot with at Dunster last year.
Katrina was 1st Lady Longbow Visitor and got her second GMB score, thus achieving her MB for this year.

Eagle Bowmen Weekend of Clout

A fantastic weekend in Penrith for the Eagle Bowmen Weekend of Clout. Katrina Horton, Chris Eccles, Alison and Steve Williams and Lord Ian Stowell representing The Longbow Club. A Double One-way Imperial Clout and Double Metric Clout on Saturday, then Double 2-way Imperial Clout today.

The conditions were very challenging – a lot of rain and breezy yesterday, then a very tricky wind today, but The Longbow Club triumphed!

Katrina won the Ladies Longbow 1-way and 2-way Imperials, was 2nd in the Ladies Longbow Metric and won the Eagle Trophy for Champion Longbow Archer.

Alison won the Ladies Metric Longbow, the Senior Best Clout in the Metric and was 2nd in the Ladies 1-way Imperial.

Ian won the Gents Longbow 1-way and 2-way Imperials and the Gents Longbow Metric.

Steve was 2nd Gents Longbow 1-way Imperial, 3rd Gent Longbow Metric, 2nd Gents Longbow 2-way Imperial.

Chris was 3rd Gents Longbow 2-way Imperial.

So everyone got medals and a lot of very heavy trophies!
Katrina also got a GMB score today in the 2-way Imperial, giving her a GMB classification!

Well done to us all! And not only that but it was great fun too. Great to see so many friends again at such a well-run shoot. A lot of laughs every day and Connor was a brilliant Lord Paramount!

AOER 10th Weekend of Clout

Great fun at the Archers of East Riding Clout Weekend. A lot of laughs and great company. A good turn out for The Longbow Club – Steve and Alison Williams, Katrina Horton, Chris Eccles, Lord Ian Stowell and Jason Lynch.

Day 1

An Imperial round today, supposed to be a light wind but it was surprisingly tricky for everyone.
We nearly had a clean sweep for longbows! Alison was 1st Lady; Katrina was 2nd Lady; Ian was 1st Gent and Steve was 2nd Gent. And a longbow archer, (Hamish Freeman), won Best Clout!
Weather forecast not so good for tomorrow’s Metric – a bit of rain and stronger winds – back to normal!

Day 2

Well we thought yesterday was a tricky wind at the Archers of East Riding Clout Weekend – that was before today’s howling gale! Judge said you could tell how bad it was when 9 archers were “blown off the line”, 5 of them on one end!

Katrina Horton was 1st Lady Longbow, Alison Williams was 2nd Lady Longbow and Ian Stowell was 1st Gent Longbow. Katrina Horton and Chris Eccles won the Jack and Jill award.

A huge thank you to Archers of East Riding for such a special weekend, maybe drop the wind next year and order some sunshine, but other than that a great weekend was had by all.

Cheshire Metric Clout

A brilliant day at the Cheshire Metric Clout. A great turnout for The Longbow Club, probably our biggest team ever – Katrina Horton, Chris Eccles, Steve and Alison Willaims, Graham and Dylan Higgs, Jason and Gabe Powell, Ian Stowell, Phil Wain, Keith Ledson, Jason Lynch and Mike O’Sullivan.

Gabe and Dylan both won 1st place for Junior Longbow at their distances; Katrina was 3rd Lady Longbow; Ian was 2nd Gent Longbow; Chris was 3rd Gent Longbow; Jason Powell got his Red Tassel; Gabe got his Black Tassel; Jason Lynch got his Black Tassle, his first ever tassel; Keith, in his 1st clout, was just a few points off his 1st Tassel and Phil got a PB.
Katrina and Alison both shot GMB scores which was fantastic as it meant we just retained the Longbow Team Award. It was very close, especially as Tracy Cross-Hargreaves from Goldcrest Archers smashed the Cheshire County record with a score only 4 or 5 off the UK National Record! Just shows how strong longbow archery is in Cheshire!
